Designer of Learning, Ormiston Junior College
Originally from Vancouver, Canada, Nick is a STEM Learning Designer at Ormiston Junior College, where he pushes the boundaries of what a modern New Zealand education looks like.
Nick is leading projects with large companies including Fletcher Construction, Fonterra Co-operative Group and local iwi towards community outcomes. His projects include building an IoT system to track construction equipment, monitoring bee population health, and converting plastic waste into 3D printing filament. All while making it fun and engaging for the students, scientists and community.
Nick believes that following student passion can lead to authentic experiences that make the community a better place. He has been collaborating with like-minded schools around the world including the United States, Brazil and Australia, demonstrating how this type of learning can help achieve United Nation Sustainable Development Goals.
